Behind the

Scenes

Denver Zoo offers behind-the-scenes tours, providing insights into the activities beyond public view. One intriguing tour highlights the Animal Ambassadors, representing the zoo as spokespeople ( or  spokesanimals?). These ambassadors, including Guinea Pigs, Macaws, hedgehogs, and more, serve as educational tools to engage children both at schools and within the zoo grounds. When not on duty, they reside behind the scenes.

To enhance visitor experience during these tours, I developed clear and informative ID signs and labels for over 20 animals in the Animal Ambassador department. This addressed the challenge of visitors struggling to identify animals within their tanks and cages amidst a room filled with multiple enclosures. Additionally, I created clear and cohesive operational signage to streamline navigation. Below are examples of the ID tags and signage designed to improve this aspect of the tours.
